Coral Resilience Lab Research Fund

“We have lost 50 percent of the world’s coral reefs in the last three decades. If we do nothing, more than 90% of coral reefs will die by 2050” -Dr. Ruth Gates

The mission of the Coral Resilience Lab is to support the long-term health of coral reefs through research and education. Your gift to the Coral Resilience Lab Research Fund will provide our team at the Hawai'i Institute of Marine Biology with valuable resources to perform experiments to explore coral resilience and preserve, restore and sustain coral reefs.

Coral Concept Accelerator Fund for Exploration (Coral CAFÉ)

Building Relationships
The Coral Resilience Lab’s (CRLʻs) Coral Concept Accelerator Fund for Exploration (Coral CAFÉ) is an inviting space for individuals from around the world that care about corals to actively engage in innovative research ideas. Bi-annual virtual webinars and in-person visits strengthen funder-researcher partnerships, all while enjoying some coffee or tea.

Coral Research & Application
Coral CAFÉ research activities bridge concept and execution for solutions that positively impact coral reefs. The CRL is part of the Hawaiʻi Institute of Marine Biology at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Coral CAFÉ will jumpstart proof-of-concept projects, giving the CRL team flexibility to quickly react to emerging issues and capitalize on new concepts and technologies. CRL will then develop promising approaches that are shovel-ready to be considered by conventional funding pathways to make the greatest impact.

Dr. Ruth D. Gates Memorial Student Support Fund

The Dr. Ruth D. Gates Memorial Student Support Fund was established in November 2018 to continue Ruth's legacy of world-class research and efforts to preserve coral reefs in the face of warming seas by supporting the next generation of coral reef scientists. Gifts to this fund will support undergraduate and graduate students researching coral reefs at the Hawai'i Institute of Marine Biology.
