Part 3: CORAL BLEACHING

This lesson plan exposes students in-depth to the phenomenon that is coral bleaching. Students will learn about how warming events and human-induced impacts can lead to stress and coral bleaching, as well as what they can do to help reduce stress on corals. Coral bleaching demonstration kits will be available for in-classroom visits and for rental through the UH Stem Pre-Academy. Included are high definition photos of corals and coral polyps, confocal images, the HIMB-developed Ko‘a card. Activities for this lesson include a demonstration of coral bleaching.
